Quantity of repertoire is appreciated.

This book is quite good. The amount of repertoire is great. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because I was hoping it would have more children's songs that were suited for today's 21st Century youth. Many of the songs are appropriate, however, I believe there could have been some replacement songs, rather than such a huge supply of classical pieces (not that there's anything wrong with supplying a few classical pieces). All in all, I was glad that it had multiple levels of progress inside the book. If I had any suggestions to the authors of this book w/ all of its arrangements, I would have used more songs in C Major (to gear the beginning student for the absolute beginning pieces).

Don't get me wrong, I WOULD recommend this book for students / teachers.

A bit more rudimentary than I expected, but contains good "warm up" pieces. Had I realized it was geared to absolute beginners, I might have looked for a ore challenging book.

An excellent book to supplement etude and scale studies

I am an adult intermediate level cello student (appr. early HS equivalent). I bought this book for fun, and now my teacher assigns me a piece each week to work on. It is refreshing to actually work on lyrical solo pieces to take a break from the scales and etudes.

Although these seem like a break from the etudes, you still have lots of building and learning material here. They make shifting exercises fun for example.

Plus, it comes with a full piano accompaniement that is so useful for students to play with to check intonation.

My teacher also uses the book to play along on the cello for accompaniement for the same purpose (works really well for the Handel Largo since the bass line in the piano score functions as continuo part for a second cello). Great tunes from opera, symphony, etc. This is a fun book to play from.

One downside is the suggested fingerings. While most make sense, some are sort of silly in the goal to avoid the dreaded random open string. My teacher changes the fingerings when she assigns me a new piece. However, anyone on a level to play these pieces will recognize there are alternative fingerings and can adapt to their own use.

The Cello Solo book is good, but the cello part that is above the piano part is hard for me to read. My cello teacher said that I should have gotten a seperate cello part. That is the reason I was inquiring about the Cello book. I would like to get the seperate cello part

AMAZING

I like to play these arrangments with my teacher on the piano. THey are truly wonderful.

Please remember these are arrangments, so in some of the creations, you don't have the whole score.

Anyway, a very nice variety of traditional and classical music, in different levels to play.

The book is not recommended for someone who has just started to play cello, or only plays first position.

This is a help, but could be better. I needed to use the Black grammar play lists. I imported the list as the instructions showed several times. Then I figured out you must link the files in the playlist to you installed files. Thought that when you followed the instructions that the playlist & files would be linked together automatically. Other than that I liked the product.

Thorough review of Pulitzer awards

Roy j. Harris Jr.'s book "Pulitzer's Gold" is a very thorough review of the coveted Pulitzer awards. It gives everything that a reader might want to know about the awards. It even included a paragraph devoted to my mother's contribution to the award that my father received. Very unexpected but much appreciated because she played a pivotal role in his crusade against the Ku Klux Klan.

Roy Harris has done a thorough and masterful job telling the stories of how the most worthy of all Pulitzler Prizes have been won.
Revealing how the winning newspapers deployed their resources, made courageous decisions and maintained journalism's highest ideals -- often against great odds and determined foes -- makes for inspiring reading.
In this, perhaps the most challenging time ever to be practicing journalism, "Pulitzer's Gold" is a vivid reminder of the pivotal role of selfless, dedicated, professional journalism in America.
Every journalist -- every citizen -- should read this book. These days, the role of a free press in the United States often is challenged, even ridiculed; Harris' book is a reminder of the critical importance of a free press in a democracy.
We crown heroes easily in our culture; the people Harris writes about in Pulitzer's Gold really are heroic, and this book serves a great public service in elevating the work of journalism's finest.

Old guidebook with good photos and information. 3.7 stars

This old but still useful guidebook was written by a former curator at the Maxwell Museum at the UNM in Albuquerque. She gathered data and photos of about 700 Navajo rugs made from the 1890s to WW2, intending to make a practical guidebook for collectors, since up to the time she wrote the book (1981), most guidebooks covered older 19th century rugs, which are now priced well beyond the means of most collectors.

The book includes 16 color plates and 61 b&w photos, all clearly reproduced. More recent books have many more color illustrations. Her descriptions are clear, accurate, and especially useful for beginning collectors.

Unfortunately, good rugs made from around 1900 to 194o are now themselves priced beyond the means of most collectors. A similar guidebook for rugs from the second half of the 20th century is what you might need. Still, have a look at this one if you come across a copy.

Great Memories/Great Songs and Information

This is a fantastic book and collection of Pete Seeger's most famous songs. There is valuable information written about each song, so you get a history of it as well. I put together a Pete Seeger Tribute using most of these songs. The biggest problem was the condition of this book. It was very musty/moldy smelling. But I put it into the hot summer sun for a day and that seemed to clear it all up. If you are looking for a comprehensive book that has great songs which Pete Seeger has sung, this is the one!

The title / description is deceiving. This is not an arrangement at all. It essentially merges notes from the 2 piano version by: 1) play the 1st piano notes if present; 2) if the 1st piano is not playing, play the 2nd piano notes to fill the bars. You can do so directly from the 2-piano version without this so-called "arrangement".

Beautiful solos.

I love this book! I am an intermediate beginner and I can play about 1/2 of the pieces. The others are too difficult, some very much so. They represent a range of styles from baroque to romantic (no modern). The choices are beautiful, IMO.

Great for flute libraries.

This is an excellent flute book for the intermediate and advanced flutist. When you order, just make certain you get both the flute part and the piano part.

In the last 15 years, many English-language readers have been introduced to Latin American women's literature in translation, a field dominated by writers from Argentina and Chile. This anthology of short stories by 24 contemporary women writers now brings us women's writings from the Andean countries of Bolivia, Ecuador, and Peru. The stories, for the most part dark, center on women's interior lives. In Ecuadoran Monica Bravo's "Wings for Dominga," an old woman outwits Death herself as she knits her memories into her shroud. Bolivian Marcella Gutierrez wryly retells the story of Adam and Eve and Lilith as a courtroom drama. Peruvian Pilar Dughi describes a bored, hopeless young woman who turns to terrorism. Catalina Lohmann, another Peruvian, uses a lighter tone to satirize dictatorships in her chronicle of a bus ride through the neighborhoods of Lima. Each story is preceded by a critical biographical introduction, and the book also includes an excellent bibliography of Spanish-language short story collections and of general bibliographies of the literature of these countries. Passion

"Fire from the Andes" is a collection of short stories written by women from Bolivia, Ecuador, and Peru. Latin American literature has few prominent female authors and these three Andean countries have even fewer women writers. Having spent several months in all three of these countries, I can attest to the passion for life shared by this part of the world. This passion is reflected in these women's short stories, albeit sometimes painful and disappointing. Although these are fiction, the lives the women describe are common in these beautiful, magical, amazing countries.

Intriguing stories that have helped me understand the South American mind set.

The biographies were as interesting as the stories.
Reading these stories felt as if I had just opened the door on a new world. This should be required reading for anyone who plans to go to South America, indeed for any woman or even anyone who knows a woman. Great book!
