About the Author
Barbara Resnick, PhD, CRNP, FGSA, FAANP, FAAN,

is Professor, Department of Organizational Systems and Adult Health, University of Maryland School of Nursing, and co-directs the Adult/Gerontological Nurse Practitioner Program and the Biology and Behavior Across the Lifespan Research Center of Excellence. She holds the Sonya Ziporkin Gershowitz Chair in Gerontology, and does clinical work at Roland Park Place. Her research program is focused on optimizing function and physical activity among older adults, exploring resilience and genetics on function and physical activity, and testing dissemination and implementation of interventions in real world settings. Dr. Resnick has over 250 published articles, numerous chapters in nursing and medical textbooks, and books on Restorative Care and Resilience in Older adults. She has held leadership positions in multiple organizations including the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, Gerontological Advanced Practice Nurses Association, the Society of Behavioral Medicine, Gerontological Society of American and the American Geriatrics Society.

Great restorative nursing resource

This is a great book on restorative nursing. The chapters include overview of restorative care, staff education, evaluating older adults for restorative care, restorative care activities, motivating the older adult to engage in restorative care, and documentation and reimbursement. The chapter on staff education includes copies of powerpoint slides that work very well for initial training of restorative aides. There are various forms scattered throughout the book and everything seems to be integrated with the quality assurance process. I was also happy to find a chapter on how to motivate residents. Overall, it is a most excellent book and far less expensive than BJ Collard's book. I highly recommend it.

Not What I Was Expecting

Although this book offers wonderful information, that supports the necessity and benefits, that restorative care has for older adults in all care settings. The examples provided are very limited in each area of restorative care. This book would not increase the nursing assistants' knowledge base in the specific area of restorative nursing care. The book repeats the same basic information contained in every state mandated nursing assistant course curriculum in the nation. I was disappointed, I was expecting a useful tool to assist nursing assistants with additional information/training and skills to advance their practice in restorative care.
I want to add, that I respect the collaboration of these four authors/educators for their research, published works, expertise and commitment to improving the quality of life of older adults residing in all care settings.
This book is good for nurses that have no experience in restorative care and are not aware of the curriculum/course taught to nursing assistants students.

Great vocabulary learning tool

I have found this to be a great assist in my quest to learn Biblical Hebrew. Previously I was using standard flash cards, Old Testament Hebrew Vocabulary Cards (Zondervan Vocabulary Builder Series, The), but this software product is much better. Not only do you see the words in Hebrew and English, but you can also hear them. This is especially helpful if you are learning alone, without an instructor.
The word lists are keyed to the lessons in the textbook I am using, as well as to seven other textbooks. The best thing is that the software allows you to create your own word lists. For instance, my textbook discussed the various independent pronouns, but did not include them in the vocabulary list. Fortunately, I could make my own list that did contain these words.
One other thing that impressed me is that the documentation supplies an email address to use if you have problems or suggestions. I was surprised that the email goes direct to the author of the product.

Not easy to install.

I was under the impression that the flashcards were like a game that was organized within a shell. Instead, it is organized within iTunes. Seems to me that importing multiple playlists (chapters) into iTunes should be easier than traveling through the maze of menus to import them one-at-a-time. Loading all the components into iTunes turned out to be a hassle. Isn't there a wide selection of flashcard shells for the iPod that allows publishers to plug-in their content?
There is extensive support for many textbooks with this version. Each of the supported books chapter's is an iTunes "playlist." However, the text I have is not included, so I'm guessing which playlist folder might follow the book I am using (Fundamental Biblical Hebrew by Andrew H. Bartelt, Concordia Publishing House). So far, this is reminding me of the bad old DOS days.

Not for MP3 players

Although this product is designed for video-capable iPods (on the back of the box - not shown above - it clearly indicates that only the audio works with MP3 players), I was able to get the flashcards to work on my Sony Walkman MP3 player. The contents of the disk include several directories, including Flashcards, 3GP Files, Grammar Playlists, and MP3 Files. If you have an MP3 player, copy the MP3 Files directory over to your player...don't bother with the Flashcards directory. If you have an iPod there are extensive instructions included on how to load them. Aside from the technical issues, the user should be aware that a "modern Israeli model" of pronunciation is followed, so for example there is no distinction made between the patach and qamets. If not for this I would have given 5 stars.

Not impressed. I was expecting something that would allow for more creativity, the stories were almost leading. I was honestly looking for more of a story starter type book, this was not at all what I had envisioned. I could see its usefulness in a larger group setting, just not what I was needing at this time.

Great for Teen Devotionals!

I've just started using this book for regular devotions with my kids (15, 14, and 12). The book has good short stories (1 page) that are relevant to today's teen; also good discussion questions and scripture references. It is perfect for this age level. My kids have enjoyed the stories so far, and it really has provided a format for us to have some great family discussions that lead into the more important topics about faith, God, the Bible, etc. If you've been wanting to have meaningful conversations with your kids, this is a wonderful resource to help you begin. Many thanks to the author and publisher!!

I purchased this book and its sequel and I don't know how I worked with my youth before I did. These books are just great and they have gotten these teens talking like they never have before! I highly recommend these books to any parent or any youth worker!

Practical answers to what is usually just a theoretical concept

Most Christian books are long philosophy and short on practical, concrete application steps. This book not only does both well in the subject matter ( I'll not repeat what you can find on other people's reviews), but serves as a model of how books should be writting.
Moffitt offers a 1) foundation (liberal churches need better theology and conservative churches need better social activity), 2) a step by step modal for doing community ministry as a local church, and 3) a step by step model for doing community ministry as a family. Key to this is Moffit's emphasis on working WITH the community, and not FOR the community.

Noah--the essential story

With a short text, colorful pictures, animal textures to feel, and a great size for little hands, this book is a great introduction to the story of Noah's Ark. The animals get on the ark to get out of a coming rain storm which they sleep through. There is nothing in the text that might create concerns about where the other animals or people are that weren't on the Ark, who God is, or why the rains came to cause floods. The lift-the-flap at the end of the story to see the rainbow is a beautiful touch any young child will enjoy. My just one year old grandson has not yet seen a rainbow, but he loves to find it at the end. The illustrations are so cute and we make the animal sounds as we turn the pages. Every child is going to hear this story sooner or later and this is a beautiful and gentle way to create a beginning comfort level with a story that can create disturbing questions at a later level.

Urgent and Poignant

The format is striking and gripping in itself. An imaginary journal of a remarkable, strong willed, independent woman is interspersed with short stories. The stories are poignant, contemporary portraits of Americans, each of whom has some tenuous link to the journal. The grandeur of this vision and the urgency of the details, make it difficult for the reader to put the book down. In the journal, the dramatic politics and cultural events of the early twentieth century come alive through unforgetable characters from the white slave trade to the striking unions. In the short stories we frequently come to know wonderful, engaging personalities who share a common reality: there are some things they just don't get. An unforgetable book!

An unparalleled accomplishment. Nina Barragan combines abundant research with an artistic panache ... producing a thorough and vivid narrative of the relocation of Russian Jews to Argentina at the turn of the century. This is a remarkable, powerful story, historical fiction at it's best. Told primarily through the diary of Rifke Schulman, a fictional yet deceptively `authentic' immigrant, the story unfolds leaving an imprint of this heroic woman's life forever in our memories. A beautifully crafted book.
