H.A. Ironside (1876-1951) was an internationally acclaimed Bible teacher and preacher, as well as the author of more than sixty books. I discovered this book at the library and found it to be such a gem, that I am now going to buy it. These prayers range from a simple blessing over food to classic prayers by the saints and many "meatier" prayers, making this a children's prayer book that could carry through to young adulthood. I also found the illustrations to be lovely, simple and appealing to a child without being sickly sweet.

Some pieces are simplified version, yet the book did not say anything about that.

Some pieces like Clair de Lune and Humoresque aren't the original versions. Some of the keys for left hand to play in Clair de Lune is cut down by half, so it wouldn't have the breath-taking effect like that you heard from professionals on CD...

If you're looking for something not too difficult to play and don't mind it doesn't sound the same, this can be for you.

But the editor should have at least indicated that some are simplified versions instead of just putting the original composer's name there. That's why I rate it 3 stars.

Great selections, MOSTLY good arrangements. HOWEVER, these are NOT "piano" favorites. There are orchestra/chamber music selections transcribed and arranged, which is fine except they don't tell you where pieces come from OR opus numbers or anything like that. I use this with my more advanced students and I want them to be educated about music and where it comes from and be informed enough to know when something is a piano piece and when it is arranged FOR piano.

Fascinating book, highly recommended

The archives of the inquisition have been preserved in Mexico, including detailed testimony recounting actual conversations. The book reads like a novel but it's history. Cohen must have been truly obsessed in order to do the research and write such a book. It's a compelling read.

A fascinating read if you are a historian or searching for knowledge of the Spanish Inquisition in Mexico. Many facts and about the life of the secret Jews in Mexico . How they lived , how they prayed what was their greatest fear --besides being caught by the Inquisition. Martin Cohen researched the Inquisitional archives in Mexico and painstakingly categorized each trial related to the Carvajal family and the tragic results. A must read for any historian of the Inquisition.

The book is very interesting and gives a historical jewish perspective in New Spain during the late 1500's. I became interested in the book because my ancestor Juan Ramirez probably emigrated with Luis Carvajal (Conquistador) in 1580.
